Ramblings on Mixed Signals thus far...Not sure about "1. Stellar results...The company sent them for re-assay...".  While I am no expert on lab procedures, it seems to me an unlikely scenario primarily because stellar results would indeed meet the test of materiality and have to be disclosed regardless of what management chose to do subsequently
If one chooses to go with the "stellar" hypothesis, then I suspect internal controls in the lab could require re-assay with no reasons provided to anyone.  For example, 'ACME Labs' could have a directive as follows:
"Technicians shall re-assay any and all samples submitted where a minimum one metre interval shall have initially encountered a gold grade of 30 gms or greater"  They could also require an alternative assay technique.
The numbers are fictitious, of course, but  perhaps this is the scenario of reason #1 for the delay.
