            Especially well written post with a good range of insights.   You take the position that settling wtih HB did not give away the house, but rather solidified the assets.  The 3 cheap quickie settlements that Callinan made  including the Hud Bay surrender did indeed solidify the assets.  However the questions still remain and the issues may be more complex than meet the eye.
   For example, maybe it was not Altius doing all the maneuvering.  This whole elaborate charade may have been constructed to get Hudbay out of a big mess.  Remember, they were accused of cheating on paying royalties for many years and refused to give up their books.  When the court demanded Hud Bay turn over its books, Hud bay said it had lost the books.   Hudbay had a lot at stake here and if someone was to look into the matter of the settlement in depth, who knows what might turn up in terms of why Callinan Settled for virtually nothing with Hudbay.  The issue goes well beyond Callinan and Hudbay.  Cheating on royalties is widespread and in this case the victim
Callinan Royalties was a financially stable company with a claim that could be substantiated.
