In addition to its own inventory of stocks available for borrowing purposes, a respectable broker should also have the availability lists provided to them by other brokers. Depending on your status as a customer, you can ask your broker for access to those lists. In anyway when a broker house says that there is nothing available for your short order, it doesn't just based on its own inventory.


While that it technically possible, it is almost never done in practice due to compliance and logistics issues, especially with stocks of this kind, making it a moot point.
