RE:Moseda Technologies in the Spotlight
RE:Moseda Technologies in the Spotlight"This article loses all credibility when the authors suggest that MSD can profit from selling patient data. Privacy of medical records is paramount and that's why the data are handled securely. The author does not seem to understand this." The statement made by the author doesn't circumvent privacy of records, in fact Moseda or any other player in the data resale market would always have to abide by certain privacy terms as stipulated in the patient's contracts. These however allow the Company that owns the data, in this case Moseda, to sell the data whilst patient name and other personal details are kept anonymous (such as address, home care facility name..etc). The end users, be it HMOs, Pharmacies, insurance companies are not interested in such details rather the value is in what patient's results are when you run a significant statistical sample. For example, what is the most common drug that patients over 65 with diabetes in Alberta use most. This in turn helps pharmacies to hold only 2 to 3 drugs for diabetics in Alberta instead of a slew of many offerings and thus pharmacies are willing to pay for such data as it results in significant cost savings to their supply chain management and working capital levels (aka inventory). The example above can be expanded to insurance providers for premiums as well as HMOs for typical cost of treatment per case. Good luck to all, narmar.
