RE:RE:Solar companies are poor investment
I agree with you that solar will continue to grow, but it will be for political reasons and frankly, political blindness. Germany, a few years ago made the decision to go whole hog for solar. Now Germany is a country situated at the latitude of James bay and southern Hudson bay. In the winter the sun doesn't shine during a 16 hour night but even when it does on a non-cloudy day the sun is so weak and at such an angle that little energy is captured. And even in the summer the sun is not available at night or on cloudy days. The result is that solar provides electricity at only a small fraction of its stated capacity. The country has spent hundreds of billions in subsidies and consumer energy prices have skyrocketed causing thousands to have electricity cut off because they couldn't pay the bill. And to boot, the country now has a fragile energy grid. Political madness! Another thing people don't think of is the thousands of acres of solar panel installations needed to replace one traditional power station output and the land use usurpation and environmental degradation that involves. And then you still need the fossil fuel power station on standby for when the sun doesn't shine. Ideologically driven political madness?
