The war on drugs was really a means of devoting tons of money to fight the drug lords of S. American especially those in the cocaine trade. (See movie "Blow"). Reagan also upped the military budget tremendously which had a later outcome of bankrupting the USSR. That was not the plan but the outcome was decent. Present day Putin is an old commie from the KGB and he is trying to get back the superpower status of Russia/USSR. Regan is not deserving of praise but don't condemn him for things he was not really responsible for.
