Just release but not officially Brandon School Division buses will soon all have external and internal cameras to monitor student behaviour.
Board chair Kevan Sumner tells CKLQ they officially accepted the bid of just under $150,000 from Gatekeeper Systems to install the surveillance cameras at their regular board meeting Monday night.
"Unfortunately, we occasionally do have behavioural issues arise on the bus and we would prefer that our bus drivers be focused on their primary task of driving the buses safely," said Sumner.
He says the cameras will also be able to catch the licence plates of vehicles who pass illegally. The cameras will be installed on all 43 of the division's buses, as well any new buses in the future.
