Baytex Energy Corp. is a Canada-based energy company. The Company is engaged in the acquisition, development and production of crude oil and natural gas in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and in the Eagle Ford in the United States. Its crude oil and natural gas operations are organized into three main operating areas: Light Oil USA (Eagle Ford), Light Oil Canada (Pembina Duvernay / Viking) and Heavy Oil Canada (Peace River / Peavine / Lloydminster). Its Eagle Ford assets are located in the core of the liquids-rich Eagle Ford shale in South Texas. The Eagle Ford shale covers approximately 269,000 gross acres of crude oil operations. Its Viking assets are located in the Dodsland area in southwest Saskatchewan and in the Esther area of southeastern Alberta. It also holds 100% working interest land position in the East Duvernay resource play in central Alberta.

RE:Anyone notice the price of oilRemember that BTE doesn't have to drive all the cash from operations to pay debt holders at maturity. Assuming that it comes up with a portion from free cash flow up to 2021(50% worse case??), then they will just reissuie new debt on the primary market. Depending on what interest rates are like, the market will buy up the debt no problem! 

It's unrealistic that Baytex would simply sell everything, but should they need to sell a few assets to cover debt at maturity, why not? Writedowns are part of the business. Cover the debt and move on. 


You can sell assets, but it means you book a loss on your books if you bought these 2014.
Of course in BTE case your debt clock is a little closer now
