From CIBC Research:
Lentils A Mixed Bag
Our View: While near-term pressure remains due to Indian fumigation issues and slower exports of Canadian lentils, the long-term fundamentals look quite good. 1) No Update On Indian Lentil Fumigation Fee Exemption: We understand that Canadian and other exporters can continue to ship lentils to India without fumigation till December 31, 2017. That being said, the exemption on inspection fees (US$10/t-US$15/t) expired September 30. At the time of writing, no resolution appears to have been announced. The potential exists for increased costs for Canadian lentil and pulse shipments. While this may have a near-term impact, we understand the pulse processors such as AGT will likely attempt to pass the additional fees on to the supply chain/farmer.
