I had to repost  drag9 post , I’m glad there is Canadian that has brain to logical conclusion :
“The best benefit to Canadians would be to build upgraders and refineries in Canada, but that will never happen. First reason is that the oil is owned and controlled by foreign oil companies. (Imperial Oil usa, Royal Dutch Shell, Husky-Chinese) . They do not want to pay Canadian labour rates or taxes and royalties in Canada. Second reason is we have never had a gov't that will stand up to these oil companies. For seventy years we have been importing oil from Saudi to the refineries in eastern Canada. In all that time none of the governments have seen fit to change that. The reason these companies want to build pipelines to tidewater is because in Alberta the Ralph Klien royalty on "any oil products priced below $40" is only 1%. Bitumen is $15 a barrel. We get 15 cents and the jobs get offshored. If the oil companies refine the product here they have to pay higher royalties and taxes on their earnings. Why would they. They would rather spend money on pipelines to get it out to cheaper labour countries. Years ago Pierre Trudeau wanted a made in Canada energy policy. The Big Oil propaganda machine went into high gear to paint him as a "commie". Stupid Canadians believed the bs and voted him out. They are still swallowing the line that what is good for Big Oil is good for Canada. If the Kinder Morgan line gets built they will ship dilbit offshore and refine it in China or wherever is cheapest. If they have a tanker full of gasoline offshore China, do you think they will send it here and give us a deal just because they ripped us off in the first place? Tidewater pipelines will only increase the cost of the fuel we import from refineries in the USA. There is not a refinery in Canada that can refine bitumen unless it has been upgraded to refinery grade crude. KM and the Energy East line are dilbit lines designed to offshore the product thru Vancouver or Saint John. None of it will be processed in Canada. Lots of politicians and other paid puppets were yammering about Energy East replacing Saudi imported oil. They did not understand the project or they did and they were lying to you. When you hear them saying "we have to get our oil to market" , you need to understand that the "we" is Big Foreign Oil and the "market" is where they can make the most profit. Canada imports 54% of it's energy! Why? This has been going on for over 70 years. You would think that the first market for Alberta oil would be the Eastern refineries. We import $8 billion worth of oil every year from Saudi. The Saudi Gov't uses that money to behead people (women). Think about that the next time you fill up in Toronto. I am amazed that so many Albertans have bought the bs that we need to give our oil and jobs away. Think about all the wealth that has come out of the ft Mac tarsands. Billions of dollars of wealth extracted from the ground. What did Canadians get for it? Some of us got a reasonable paying job in brutal weather working conditions. But what did we really get for all that wealth? Where are all the brand new highways, bridges and buildings like they have in Saudi? Where are our fully funded hospitals and universities? Nope, we got homeless camps, food banks and unemployment. Do they have those in Saudi Arabia? Norway nationalized it's natural resources and their royalty fund is a trillion dollars. Alberta is almost bankrupt because we allowed the wrong people to get into positions of power. They are still there. If we don't sweep them aside they will not only lead you into poverty but they will destroy your planet and your childrens future. It is time to rethink and make different “choices. Time has come today.”
