Manufacturing Facility

BioAmber Inc. operates the world’s largest succinic acid plant in Sarnia, Canada. The facility has a nameplate capacity of 30,000 tons per year and was built at a cost of $141 million. Construction was completed in 2015.

Beyond Sarnia, BioAmber Inc. is planning to build a second world-scale plant in North America that will produce 1,4-butanediol (BDO), tetrahydrofuran (THF) and succinic acid. The nameplate capacity is expected to be 100,000 tons of BDO/THF and 70,000 tons of succinic acid per year. BioAmber Inc. has signed take-or pay contracts for approximately 80% of the nameplate capacity of this second plant, which is expected to complete construction in late 2018.
