I would like to start by stating that I appreciate the services provided by Stockhouse.
Before May last year I had no idea this forum existed and I was gathering information regarding my investments by screening newspapers and websites.
Since finding SH I discovered a community of investors who are working collaboratively to understsnd the market and to improve their chances of success. In the process, I have learned a lot and I am grateful for that. This effect I believe is in line with the original intent of the forum.
Unfortunately I also discovered a group of people who are working against the principles behind this enterprise. An amorph mass of people with negative goals such as:
- bashing the stocks so they can benefit of people's fear through shorting
- pumping the stocks in order to get the price up and the sell on artificial highs
- trolling for the sake of trolling, out of boredom, for the twisted fun of antagonizing people for no reason
Whether the latter group of people is successful or not in influencing the stock price is up for debate. What is certain, though, is that they cause a poisoned environment on the forum, which, again, is completely against the purpose of SH.
I have witnessed this poisoned environment on multiple boards and I have tried to use the tools provided by SH to help clean up the environment, but I eventually figured out that these tools are ineffective.
As a result, I would like to propose to the SH team a few measures, which I believe can bring a significant improvement in the environment:
1. Perform a review of aliases vs. IP addresses and remove all duplicates associated with the same IP. This will remove a significant number of trolls. who are hiding behind numerous names, in order to create the impression of agreement between independent opinions.
2. Make it a requirement that people joining SH provide their full names, addreses and phone numbers, just for the SH records. This will discourage people with bad intentions from joining, as they will be concerned about their traceability.
3. Make it a standard rule that, when a poster is reported a certain number of times for a valid reason, that poster will be banned from the forum for one month (based on their IP address rather than their e-mail address). The ability to come back after one month is intended to give the person a second chance.
4. If a poster has been banned three times, make the ban for 6 months or one year.
I suggest that these improvements be implemented as a pilot project first, to allow for adjustments to be made before rolling this out to other forums. This would also allow to prove that the new format is successful.
The pilot could be the Canopy Growth forum, as it represents a good sample through the number of posters and their activity.
What's in it for SH?
- avoid a dramatic decrease in viewership, caused by disenchanted people who could see this forum as low value. People have already started their own discussion groups and are also posting about other forums.
- increase the quality of the conversations on this forum and thus increase viewership and ad revenues
- doing the right thing
I hope SH will consider these suggestions.
(I will send this to the "Contact us" address as well, but I wanted the other posters to see what is being proposed and to give them a chance to contribute to the proposed improvements.)
Seriously ?
This board is a joke and your a bigger joke for caring. Stockhouse doesn't care and neither should you.
The ONLY reason I monitor this site is because many losers live, eat and breath this board minute after minute. This sometimes results in very quick information such as NRs being released.
Do yourself a solid and get a life. Go and walk a dog or something. Nothing happens here on the weekend
Weekend losers !!!!!!
