Recognizing the Symptoms of "Pooh-Jar Myopia"

Recognizing the Symptoms of "Pooh-Jar Myopia"Better behaviour:  Powerful words

JS Mill On Liberty, p. 35.
We also need disagreement, we need to be challenged, or our doctrines dry up and become mere “received ideas” - ideas held without passion, without clarity or strength.  He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that.  His reasons may be good, and no one may have been able to refute them.  But if he is equally unable to refute the reasons on the opposite side, if he does not so much as know what they are, he has no ground for preferring either opinion.  The rational position for him would be the suspension of judgement....  He must be able to hear them [contrary ideas] from persons who actually believe them, who defend them in earnest and do their very uttermost for them.  He must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form; he must feel the whole force of the difficulty which the true view of the subject has to encounter and dispose of, else he will never really possess himself of the portion of truth which meet and removes that difficulty.

How can we detect if the “Pooh Jar Myopia” exists and has manifested itself on our board?  This is where an inexperienced retail investor tries their best to comply with the credo that is described in JS Mill’s words above, but becomes lost in an effort to comply.  It’s an admirable position to take in any discussion.  But it can lead to fatal investment errors when applied to forums such as this Stockhouse board.

We have repeatedly witnessed examples of where a poster has been made clearly aware of our investment direction from the source that has the most power over it.  And typical of someone that suffers from the “Pooh Jar Effect”, this investor will run back into the comfort of deafening white noise emanating from a completely idiotic source.  Even worse, that the rational for paying attention to the idiot in question is because they are of senior years so we should assign some merit.   JS Mills never intended that, I am sure.

Let us examine the example of a Stockhouse conversation that took place on June 13, 2018.  It’s a very important discussion because it revolved around the topic that NVO would be pursuing a full-blown M-License for the CW/PW tenements, on the premise that a provision for a large-scale mining operation is built into the initial planning stages.

In contrast, the opposing view (as expounded by the Rhino) insists that this a ridiculous speculation, and the only way to move forward is to pursue (under the authority of an E-License bulk sample allowance) mobile mill sampling and eventually move into the Radio Hill refurbished mill when it becomes commissioned (which even the Rhino continues to remain completely oblivious on when that may be).

Let us commence a review of the discussion that transpired on June 13, 2018:

Yes, AB.  It's all very logical to me.  The whole podcast in fact.  Tx

Well, ES pretty much answered the question that everyone has been asking "What the H#ll is QH up to". Seems to be 5 trenches at 200m spacing to define a resource that will satisfy Western Aus mining agency to provide a mining license. I believe that they continue to use SGS as an independent lab to validate their results to lead credence to their numbers for the mining agency and naysayers of the world as opposed to do it on the run using their own recovery systems which will not be as "objective". Seems pretty straight forward and the rest of ES' comments are consistent with what Tx has written here so many times. Same with the rest of the podcast. Nice to hear it from the big guy;s own mouth though. Interviewer asked a lot of questions that people want the answers to. Well done!

  1. June 13, 2018 - 04:00 AM EST:  Rhino10 blasts off:

RE:RE:RE:Sprott: NOVO - getting the mining license

Waiting,  What a load of rubbish.  Calculate the tonnage that would be generated from only five trenches across the width of gold bearing conglomerates to the full depth of the conglomerates and then work out how long it would take the SGS plant at 50 tonnes per month. Quite a few years- plus the time to have a mining lease granted.
It is still vague but clearly commonsense has finally prevailed  -it is no longer 'what QH is up to'  it is what the 'practical miners are up to' now.  He has been told -put in place a situation where we can mine - DMIRS have obviously agreed a JORC wont be necessary - they have opted  to fast track a mining lease -maybe 12 months -that is okay - but without all the small bulk samples to 'scientifically and methodically' prove a JORC -It is bang through a  few samples at SGS enough to convince DMIRS it passes muster and lets mine it -
It is the only way because the piss ant SGS plant would be there another five years just doing several trenches let alone five trenches to the full depths of the conglomerate.
So TX is blown out of the water -if your interpretation is correct Waiting it is some big trenches -just  a few samples to support the mining lease application and mine it -which is NOT the way QH planned it and NOT the way TX said it would be done.

One more time Rhino. Just for you. As Eric Sprott says in the podcast: JV out the mining after you get the mining licence via the SGS mineralization data. That's the plan. Turn E to M for the 15th time. Get it?

RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Sprott: NOVO - getting the mining license

TX,  I have not had a chance to listen to Sprott -I am going on the interpretation of Waiting Still . If all the material from five trenches has to be processed through the SGS plant then I will leave that for others to calculate -I have done my back of the envelope and you wont even live that long.
I will make you a bet - they will excavate five trenches - they will perservere to get a few samples through SGS---  AND  wait for it --- they will process significant tonnages through a plant like Radio Hill. Which is exactly what I have recommended al along and nothing like you have ever suggested. I must fly

Rhino - just saw that you did not even bother to listen to the podcast, used my "positive" interpretation and somehow you spin it into a negative interpretation. That is classic. Nicely done. Lol.

And then finally, it all goes back to the original poster who clearly confirms that “Pooh-Jar Myopia” has manifested itself of our board.  Less than two weeks later after more endless debate on what was already stated by the executives controlling Novo, we get this:

  1. June 26, 2018 - 11:14 AM EST:  Allenbow states

RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Nvo Mark1

I for one am not putting Rhino on ignore. The gent makes good points and asks the difficult questions that those who wish to ignore him also ignore, namely, as one example, that the SGS Dinkie Toy Mill IS a lab experiment and totally inadequate to handle the bulk sample sizes needed to establish what NOVO hopes to establish. ……
….. That  is what Rhino10 posts are all about, and he has points there. Cheer lead all you want but those points have not been answered by those mining professionals who should answer them and that is Novo management, …..I for one have reduced my investments in this play and am done posting here in what has become a vitriolic and asinine board, until both the play and board show positive improvement .  More than ever, NVO is in a ‘show me position’ and if they don’t in the next NR this stock will tank – that’s my opinion.

All I can only say WTF ????  Read it all again if you can stomach it.  The Rhino proceeds to launch into this critical discussion, reads what WaitingStill posts, proclaims it all as being “load of rubbish“,  then ends his rant by stating “I have not had a chance to listen to Sprott -I am going on the interpretation of Waiting StillAll made even more ridiculous by the fact that the Rhino actually misinterpreted what WaitingStill posted.   In reality, it is all quite sad.

So, I also have an interpretation of this discussion above.  Either we are being subjected to an aggressive dim-witted salesman with an anti-NVO agenda, or simply just a sun baked geriatric suffering from advanced senility.  In both cases, his mouth seems to be fully operational despite being disconnected to anything resembling cognitive thinking.

As an investor in NVO, I have actually tolerated examples like the above.  So have posters TexasT, Iskyhigh, HH, Waitingstill, Northstar, etc.   But what I won’t tolerate is when an individual like the Rhino runs off to other blog boards like a dingo with dysentery, and spews $hit using references to my Tx moniker.   And then manages to get himself temporarily banned from that board for the same behavior he displays on this board.  Dogs like this need to be put down and I am glad that is what happened on CEO.ca, accompanied by a higher wall of ignores when he returned here to Stockhouse.

What we have here is an obnoxious bully armed only with a tennis racket and a double digit I.Q. who now states he is seeking the assistance of the Australian police to protect him “make believe” hitmen rising out of his keyboard.  So, now I run the added risk that he may also seek protection from the Australian Animal Protection Society.  Poor thing.

If one chooses to support such an individual, by all means feel free to do so.  But I will not accept calls for tolerance towards an individual that performs toxic "walk-abouts" on other boards and derides my opinions.  Nor endless unsubstantiated slants against the NVO investment to which he seems fixated upon and admittedly avoids.  Especially in light of conversations like the one above.  And there other examples of similar bullying, rambling logic, and complete incompetence in understanding this investment.

Many of us have our money invested in NVO.  It is not fair to be subjected to his level of commentary.  And we certainly do not need to be subjected to this level of idiocy.  As for me, I have placed the Rhino where I feel he belongs along with the chronic sufferers of Pooh-Jar Myopia:  in the IGNORE bin.

And that’s all within my rights as a NVO investor on this board.

Tx
