Ulises Solis speaks about Falchani next stepshttps://proactivo.com.pe/litio-peruano-atraeria-capitales-chinos-y-coreanos/ Peruvian lithium would attract Chinese and Korean capitals After new exploration work in Falchani (Puno), Plateau Energy almost doubled the project's resources to 4.71 million tons of lithium carbonate. Thus, the expectation for its development grows as much as investors appetite.
Ulises Solis, general manager of the local subsidiary Macusani Yellowcake, commented that capitals from all over the world and, particularly, from Asia, want to bet on the Peruvian lithium project. "They are from China and Korea", he told Gestion, after explaining that these investors are turning their attention to Peru as they see environmental problems in the exploitation of lithium in areas of brines and lakes in Chile.
In contrast, in Peru, the operation will be on an open-pit mine such as copper mining, he said.
He said that there are several investors in the Falchani project, and that the new talks seek to attract more capital for its development, but a sale is not being negotiated.
"We continue as Plateau Energy Metals in Canada or Macusani Yellowcake in Peru", he said. He added that they are waiting for regulations on uranium, an element also present in Falchani.
Next steps
Consulted on the next steps towards the construction of the project, Ulises indicated that they will begin an exploration campaign to move from resources to reserves. "It should start in the second quarter, we already have the meetings with communities", he noted.
They have also started the preliminary economic study (PEA) and commissioned the environmental impact study.
Thus, construction would begin in late 2020 and early 2021. "The idea is to have it as soon as possible, the price of lithium is up and no one knows for how long", he said.
