RE:RE:RE:China EV sales

RE:RE:RE:China EV sales Globally cobalt output was about 130k tonnes last year. After refining, approximately 110k tonnes of refinined cobalt products entered the market (10-15% refining loss). Approximately 74k tonnes of refinined cobalt were used in battery products last year, of which 16k tonnes of cobalt were used in EV in 2018, double that of 2017. EV is the fastest growth sector of cobalt. Cobalt used in other areas may have only 5-6% growth rate.

Cobalt used in EV:

(1) Aggressive Case
2017 - 8k tonnes (actual)
2018 - 16k tonnes (actual)
2019  - 32k tonnes (estimated)
2020 - 50k tonnes (estimated)
2021 - 70k tonnes (estimated)
2022 - 100k tonnes (estimated)

(2) Conservative Case
2017 - 8k tonnes (actual)
2018 - 16k tonnes (actual)
2019  - 26k tonnes (estimated)
2020 - 36k tonnes (estimated)
2021 - 47k tonnes (estimated)
2022 - 60k tonnes (estimated)
2023- 79k tonnes (estimated)

Based on the agreesive case, cobalt shortage appears in late 2021. Based on the conservative case, cobalt shortage appears in 2023.
