Peruvian Congress working to stimulate lithium industryGood to see the Congress is taking this opportunity seriously, and this congressman Mantilla is imo a serious guy. But what I like the most about this presentation is the argument Ingemmet is using against pollution fears: these radioactive elements are already polluting the environment so we're better off extracting them!!

Working Group on Radioactive Metals of the Energy and Mines Commission, lead by Congressman Mario Mantilla
In order to know the current status of lithium and uranium exploration in our country, the working group of Radioactive Metals - coordinated by congressman Mario Mantilla Medina - held a meeting with representatives of the Mining and Metallurgical Geological Institute - INGEMMET and the Engineers college.
Congressmen Fredy Sarmiento and Mantilla showed great interest in presenting a bill that regulates the exploration and exploitation of lithium since we are among the top 5 countries that have the largest reserves of this element, which is used for cell phone batteries.
"We want to promote the development of these batteries in our country to guarantee more jobs and added value", stressed Fredy Sarmiento.

Regarding uranium, Ingemmet said that its price has dropped in the market since the disaster in Fukushima, Japan, so it is more appropriate to postpone its exploration and exploitation until the price rises again.
Regarding the contamination of these elements, they stressed that they are already contaminating because the area is rainy and with the extraction of them, the contamination could be eliminated by removing them from the area and processing them.
