The banks had an opportunity to make them change structure when doing this deal and they blew it IMO.
Good day GrizlyBear,
Agree, they blew the deal big time. But bankers are just people like you and me, except that they are grossly overpaid, and they make mistakes. Clearly, the deal was seen as simple enough by banks management and they do not assigned the brightest to this task. So, now facing rather large and preventable loss, the middle and upper management will be scrambling to fix what they screwed up.
They have to, their careers and bonuses depend on financial performance, so I would not be surprised if they already are on phones and asking Shaw for compensation, some sort of compensation. For example asking Shaw to return the difference between 6.80 and 6.25 on that many millions of shares, and Shaw will face a dillema, whether to keep the control of Corus or to find approx 30 mill to pay banks back.
It is worth remainding that banks control to larege extend Corus' balance sheet!!!
