RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Mike Rose Continues to BuyThere are 2 techologies on the horizon, but neither is ready for prime time. Hydrogen can be useful in some applications (including mobile), but not all. Nuclear is cheap power (and still widely used), but it has risks that can be a major concern and is out of favour in a lot of countries. It might be fruitful to get thorium back in the mainstream as an alternative, and fusion is still being researched.
Neither can fully replace natural gas and oil (which are also feedstocks for other products).
The only other thing going on is the politics. The environmentalists overlook a simple fact - it is impossible to shut down the petro industries. Our civilization is built on them. There are serious shortcomings to all of their proposed alternatives even at modest scale, never mind the scale necessary to do what they demand..

New tech can vaporize an industry, especially an old one like oil and gas that has been around for so long. History is littered with industries that capitalism has completely turned upside down with new technology. It is tough to admit when you're wrong but it sure looks like there is more going on than just simple oversupply,
