Article on flightglobal has Airbus saying they wont break even until 2025-26. What that means is until that time each airplane sold cost more than they are selling it for. So yes bombardier lost money in developing c series but they saved a lot more in future ramp up cost. And when BA and EMB join forces then expect the E2 to be heavily discounted to compete with a220. A220 will have to cut prices to compete which will further erode the profit margin.
