It takes years for mine to scale up. If VW plan to make millions of EVs, they need start planning 5 ahead.
Let's not forget that old mines are keep running out of minerals and their grades, normally gettig poorer.
We all get hit by Australian mines, but we often forget that Greenbushes were opened and well well studied long ago. Together with other new mines, miners were just wating for right time (pricing), it allowed them to jump start production. Brine can step in, but need have 2-3 years gap between engineering and full production.
