CAR: Ndl, arrival of Portuguese and Rwandan special forces from Minusca
By Mose BANAFIO, Journalist and CNC correspondent at Bria -May 11, 2020
Ndl (Central African Republic) - On board fifty or so heavily armed combat vehicles, the Portuguese and Rwandan forces of Minusca (United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic) arrived this Sunday, May 10, around 6 p.m. in the city of Ndl, capital of the prefecture of Bamingui-Bangoran, north of the CAR, the scene of fierce fighting between the RPRC and the FPRC, two rival armed groups from the former Seleka coalition.
After the Minusca's unanswered ultimatum to the rebel coalition RPRC-MLCJ-PRNC to immediately leave their occupied position during the last confrontation in the city of Ndl, several dozen soldiers from the Portuguese and Rwandan contingent arrived this Sunday evening Ndl aboard fifty combat vehicles.
The objective, according to an internal source at Minusca interviewed by CNC, would be to force not only all the rebel elements of the RPRC-PRNC-MLCJ coalition to leave the city of Ndl, but also to reduce their military capacity.
For the residents of Ndl grouped in a camp for displaced persons near Minusca, the arrival of the Rwandan and Portuguese special forces is nothing but good news for peace in their martyred city of Ndl, recently shaken by a series of violent clashes between different rival armed groups resulting in the death of nearly 100 people, dozens injured, but also numerous property damage.
Meanwhile, FACA soldiers, who are expected to be deployed to Ndl last week, are currently on their way. They could arrive on site in the coming hours.
It should be noted that all the international NGOs based in Ndl, in particular the ICRC, Premire Urgence, Norwegian Council for Refugees (CNR) and many others were literally looted by armed groups before the arrival of forces. specials of Minusca.
