It's actually not a bad idea, 'network marketing' at it's finest when you think about it.  You sell to your friends and friends of friends.  Just bring them to the parties to get some eye candy.

Problem is it didn't work since revenues are quite low relative to the millions of followers on instagram.  I guess the only buyers were likely those who got an invite.  While the rest thought of Dan as a cool guy it wasn't enough to buy his products.
