Lawsuit Cresco Labs Inc. has filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against its former president and co-founder, Joseph Caltabiano, claiming that he is using the company's confidential information for his own personal gain. Among other things, he has started a competing business and has been interfering with cannabis licences that Cresco holds in Ohio and Arizona, the company claims. The licences are personally registered to him, and he has refused to hand them over without receiving what Cresco says is "substantial compensation."
The allegations are contained in a notice of claim that Cresco filed at the Vancouver courthouse on Jan. 29, 2021. The case comes about one year after Mr. Caltabiano left Cresco, resigning on March 2, 2020. The departure seemed amicable on the surface, with the company saying that it "wishes Joe well on his future endeavors and looks forward to continuing its path to building the most important company in cannabis."
