That has to be the nicest post I've ever gotten. Thanks mucho for it.

That is truly wonderful to hear that the dividend income approach is working for you. I really do believe that it is very simple to set up and can be totally stress free.

As I mentioned, I base the size of a holding on book value rather than current vlaue and coincidentally, our total midstream book% is 23.6% so very close to your 25%. My wife & I only hold 5 sectors and at this point, midstream and banks are my two favs,

WRT BPY, we did sell all our shares  at an average of $21.65 after the take-over announcement. We took a hit on the capital side but squeaked out a meager $5.8k profit with the divys and short term trades. Not the best of returns for a 4 year hold but sh*t happens and it did supply phenomenal income along the way.

Thanks again and all the best

WalterWhy wrote: Thanks, Sarge--I have a limit of about 25% on my midstream in total, but my split is about ENB (10%), ALA (6%), TRP / KEY / PPL the rest.    I also have a few hundred shares of IPL that I'll hold on to to see how this BIPC takeover plays out.

Are you still holding BPY?  It has done fairly well recovering recently, and many were expecting a dividend cut, but it never came, and now there is a Brookfield offer for them, too.

When I first retired, I spent a lot of time stressing about the ability of my portfolio to get me through retirement, but now happy to say that I stress quite a bit less which I attribute to your calm approach to investing and clipping the dividends--you have my thanks and gratitude!

Cheers,
WW

Great to hear from you.

A huge congrats on your marvelous timing on both sides - selling renewables and buying midstreamers.

Yes, we do have a full position in ENB, KEY, PPL, and TRP. No plans to add anymore as they are all at 5% of our total book value. I never really care about the % of total portfolio but do have a rule that 5% of book is as high as I want to be for any indiviudal stock.

As an aside, with the Brookfield potential take-over annnouncement of IPL, we've trimmed 30% of our IPL. I usually sell all with take-over announcements but the Brookfiled offer is so totally under-priced so I'm hedging on a bigger offer above the current IPl trading price of $18.

Take her easy and keep up the good work

WalterWhy wrote: Thanks, Sarge--as always, appreciate the insight.

I know you have full positions most of the time, but are you thinking of adding any more midstreamers at this point?

I sold all my NPI, AQN and RNW recently near the peaks, and have been re-deploying into TRP/ENB/PPL/KEY (I already have a full position in ENB).  I wanted to sell my ALA at around $20, but changed my mind as I'm still well below my cost base.

Hope all is well!

SargeX wrote: As I've been saying for a while, renewables are grossly over-priced and midstreamers are under-priced. Here's a quote from part of my post from Jan 14th.

Anyway, as I've been saying for a little while, anything green including the pure renewblres is grossly over-priced and headed for a 10-20% correction in the next months. On the other hand, the midstreamers are grossly under-priced and headed for a run-up.

I just made up a table of the correction on a few pure rewables companies thus far. It's a mess and I'm not sure it's over yet.

Ticker   Curr   High   Diff%   Date
BEP.UN   51.58   63.39   -18.63   21.01.08
BLX   40.95   56.70   -27.78   21.01.12
INE   23.94   32.48   -26.29   21.01.08
NPI   41.98   51.45   -18.41   21.02.05
RNW   19.81   24.47   -19.04   21.01.07

In the meantime, the midstreamers have done quite well.

I'm quite happy to have sold all our BEP.UN and 60% of our NPI.

Ciao
  Sarge
