As an investor I suggest you use Google and get educated on the industry. Telsa has identified they are moving away from Cobalt. GM has also stated their intention to use a cobalt free battery and are currently working on pivoting.
We are aware of the paradigm shift to battery makers moving away from cobalt. This has even been acknowledged by the FCC leadership. However, the move away from cobalt will not come soon or easily. GM is targeting 2025 for a cobalt free battery but that is, at this point, a big what-if. And there is no guarantee that all battery makers will follow suit. Cobalt plays a critical role in the cathode of lithium ion batteries to provide the stability needed to prevent thermal runaway. Yes it is true that the cobalt content has been on a decline over the past few years from NMC-111 to NMC-532 to NMC-622 and now NMC-811 where the word is that it will stay for a while. For those not in the know, the numbers refer to the proportions of each of nickel, manganese and cobalt in the batteries. Even with 811 cathodes, and possible further reduction of cobalt content, the demand for batteries is projected to well outweigh the loss of cobalt. That is, if cobalt content is reduced by 50% but battery demand goes up by 200%, the demand for cobalt remains the same. If content is reduced by 50% but demand goes up by 400%, then we will need 2x as much cobalt. This is the niche that FCC is trying to fill and North America desperately needs a supply chain of battery grade cobalt that is independent of China.
