IRD's competitionThere's some very smart people here but also very little knowledge displayed of IRD's competition.
The biggest names appear to be in Europe, with a curious concentration in little Austria. Top of the heap is Kapsch AG (based in Vienna) which has roughly $700 million in sales. It's the biggest name in electronic toll collection (ETC), with a world-wide presence--though it's completing a horrifically bad year. It's Kapsch that did the 407 in Toronto.
Some of the competitors are minor divisions of mega companies--such as the WIM business of Mettler Toledo and Avery Weigh Tronix of Illinois Tool Works (though Avery appears to be more static truck scales--vs. WIM). Also some division of TE Connectivity (formerly Tyco Electronics).
Some others include:
Q-Free (tends to lose money but significant in ETC, based in Norway)
TagMaster (based in Sweden)
EFKON GmbH (Graz, Austria / subsidiary of STRABAG)
SWARCO (Innsbuck, Austria)
Cross (seems to be mainly WIM systems, based in Czechia)
FLIR Systems (mostly IR cameras)
Cabbie, others, get to work. We should be reasonably up on all these names. And there are many others.
