I say this because there is a global effort underway to manufacture graphene inexpensively and at scale. I am certain that as these efforts advance there will be more than one way to "skin that cat" so by default, focusing patent efforts in that area seems a waste of time and resources. FYI, some of those efforts have yield prices of approximately USD $1.25 per gram. So eventually, as more production comes on line there will be little money in that business. It will be a commodity.
I will rely on the notion that the patent applicant (the University's commercialization department) conducted all the due diligence on GMG's manufacturing process prior to entering into their agreement.
So onward and upward in the hopes that battery commercialization moves forward. It is also worth considering that given their composition Aluminium ION batteries may require less time to commercialize.
Initially, I put very high value on their graphene technique. Now, I agree with you. Because the process is difficult to patent, as per company, there will be many manufacturers.
So, graphene based batteries become prime value. The quality of the product and speed of development will determine GMG value. If they stay ahead, capitalization will go up and so ability to raise capital with min. dilution.
Now, we will w
