The Ol' One Two Punch
The Ol' One Two PunchStep 1. Suitor one comes in with a low-ball offer and agreement knowing full well it'll get voted down, but make sure you get yourself a nice pay day (break-up fee) in the event the deal gets nixed.
Step 2. Have a white knight come in at the last hour with a much sweeter offer than suitor number one. Provide the shareholders with some satisfaction that they are getting Y and not X, but still way under real-world valuation.
Step 3. Suitor number two STEALS the company from under said shareholders, knowing full well only 15-20% of the value has been realized to date.
Step 4. Pay off suitor number one for their help in making suitor number two look like heroes.
Step 5. Announce in 2-3 years that the company has identified 50 million ounces of gold...
Barrick always wins. They are supported by the bankers and big government. After decades of underperformance, they still find a way to survive.
Just wait a few more days for Barrick to make their move. You will all be elated to get $38 CAD for your GBR shares. Not because it represents true value, but because it's not $29 CAD.
