If that is the case, why did they even bother with a 5 month red herring of a strategic investor if you are better off doing it alone in the first place? That doesn't smell right. Reminds me of 2 cases. 1. Sobeys attempt to purchase A&P, only to lose out to Metro. For years they were staring at A&P like a dog in a butcher shop window, only to say "We are better off that we didn't proceed". 2. Russia's war with the Ukraine. According to Putin's latest spin, he didn't get is butt kicked. The Battle of Kiev was just a diversion to draw resources away from Donbas. If Ukraine's estimates are correct Putin lost 20,000 KIA wtih 40,000 WIA out of his 150,000 invasion force with some elite regiments wiped out and now he's scraping the botton of the barrel for reenforcements.
