Road Trip In A TSLA - Conclusions

Road Trip In A TSLA - ConclusionsSaw a great video over the weekeend where this guy compared going on a 800KM road trip in Western Canada to doing the same trip in an ICE car.

Essentially IMO, the comparison boiled down to issues related to actual range per battery charge and charging time.

His results were that it took 2 hours longer to do the trip in a TSLA going at the same speed due to charging time and the fact that driving at highway speeds he didn't get the advertised range per battery charge.  This issue is not unique to TSLA and I suspect that the lower range for competitors would have resulted in a bigger time difference between the EV and an ICE.

The one thing that struck me which he didn't mention but was obvious from the video was that he didn't have to wait at any charging station to start charging his battery.  As more cars become EVs this may not be true and driver could have to wait a significant time before even getting to charge their batteries and this would further increase the travel time compared to an ICE.

Was thinking a way for TSLA to address this problem would be to allow for people to book times in advance for a spot at a charging station.  This could be done online in advance of starting the trip and/or being able to book a time in advance directly from the software in the car.
