UBS @ CTIA
UBS @ CTIAA good post from Agora leaves much to think about
https://www.agoracom.com/agora/nonmemforum/msgreview.asp?id=73843&refid=73763&orig=73747
I am trying to piece together the significance, if any of the CTIA show for UBS.
First off we know that they will be focused on COFDM in MMDS and passive components
''The focus for UBS at the CTIA is fixed wireless and passive components. The focus will be on our MMDS systems utilizing COFDM and our line of passive components such as waveguide, filters, and couplers.''
Secondly we know that UBS is a sponsor.
A couple of weeks ago I went looking to see if UBS was sponsoring at this show. I did not see them at that time. Yet there they are now. I assume that they are a recent addition and are doing this for a purpose. UBS previously sponsored the Smart Vehicle conference. They did so because they had a purpose. They wanted a high profile because they were making a significant NR (mobile COFDM Forum). Now hear they are sponsorng again. History gives us reason to think that they may want the additional attention that their pocketbook will buy them. They would not through thousands out for good luck. Yes, I recognize that they are looking for a higher profile this year but they are very cautious with their money. My guess - expect news.
To try and determine where this might be going we need to look at the focus that they give. In particular COFDM MMDS. This has been a key area of R & D for UBS lately. They have provided NR and hints about significant developments in this area. They were part of the approved IEEE 802.16.1 proposal in this area for PHY layer. They announced a patent application on their PHY layer. They indicated that they had a bi-directional modem on the way. Could it be that they have something further to say on this issue? Is there a further development in the wings? In the recent Rosen interview he dropped hints about revolutionary technology and being unable to determine the full future impact of it on corporate finances (but the expectation of continued strong revenue growth.)
Maybe I am reading far to much into this. I have been known to do that in the past so take it as a warning. I could be totally off base, especially since I am desperately hoping to hear good news, however, I am going to go out on a limb and place my guess (note - I don't use word prediction).
I think that during the CTIA we will be getting a NR regarding a completely operational, highspeed, bi-directional fixed COFDM Modem for MMDS. Just a guess here folks - maybe more of a prayer lol
