When his son was diagnosed with brain cancer, one billionaire in 2012 bought a biotech that was thought to have a promising molecule against brain cancer.  The stock was trading @2$.  It ended up that the molecule didn't deliver on brain cancer but was successful in cardiology.  He bought in @2$.  The biotech was then later on acquired for 21B$ (262$/share).

I'll bet he would of financed the whole Phase 1 trial if he could of been 1 of the few lucky ones to participate in the future clinical study.
