DR will host the XII Annual Conference of Mining Ministries Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Republic will host the XII Annual Conference of Mining Ministries of the Americas (CAMMA) to be held in Santo Domingo from October 18 to 20 and will include representatives of 23 governments in the region who will exchange knowledge and experiences in mining public management.
This international conclave -considered the most important in the mining sector in the Americas- seeks to highlight mining as a key vector for the comprehensive development of States.
It will be headed by Vice President Raquel Pea and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte.
During the work sessions, this multilateral forum on mining policy will have as its main focus of analysis sustainable mining and the search for mechanisms that facilitate inter-institutional communication among the actors in the sector.
CAMMA is a propitious space to improve the governance of mineral resources, strengthen eco-sustainable commitments and underline the contribution of mining to the achievement of the so-called "Millennium Goals".
In addition, the event will feature interesting panels that will be chaired by Miguel Daz, Vice Minister of Mines; Rolando Muoz, Director of Mining; Miguel Pea, mining advisor to the Executive Power and Edwin Garca, director of the National Geological Service. There will be two forms of assistance for them: face-to-face -in the halls of the Sheraton hotel in Santo Domingo- and in virtual format.

The event will begin at 8:45 am on Tuesday, October 18, with opening speeches by Vice President Raquel Pea and Minister Antonio Almonte. They will address the value of the national extractive industry in terms of employability, stability of public finances, generation of foreign exchange, technology transfer and social responsibility.
Afterwards, it will be the turn of the consultant Armand Peschard-Sverdrup, with a degree in Political Science and Economics from Carleton University and postgraduate studies at the Georgetown University School of International Affairs, with the conference: "Mining and governance of mineral resources in the development of Latin America”.
Other authorities will also take part in the XII CAMMA Conference, among them: Vctor Bison Haza, Minister of Industry and Commerce; Cristine Laberge, Ambassador of Canada; Mark Bristow, Chairman of Barrick Gold; Juana Barcel, president of Barrick Pueblo Viejo; Rafael Poveda, consultant for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC); Elizabeth Mena, president of the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo) and executive vice president of Cormidom; Adan Olivares, from the Responsible Mining Assurance Initiative, and Pierre Pasquale, from the National Resource Governance Institute.
Likewise, the participation of: Todd Burns, president of Cypher Environmetal; Jeff Simpson of Aquatic Life; James Lauer, director of the Extractive Sector and Natural Resources Transparency and Taxation Division of Canada; the consultant and geologist Osiris de Len; Marcos Prez, president of the Dominican Mining Institute; Vicente Gabaldn, from the ASGMI General Secretariat; Julissa Bez, from the Dominican Association of Cement Producers (ADOCEM); Jeannette Snchez, from the Natural Resources and Infrastructure Division of ECLAC; Freddy Cceres, manager of the Extractive Resources Governance Program at the University of Calgary, Canada; Gabriel Castillo, director of Climate Change; Yomaira Martin Soto, from GreEnergy Dominicana, and Gamal Micheln, Deputy Minister of Culture.
It will be up to the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos , to conclude the meeting , and on October 20 the panelists will have the opportunity to visit two benchmark mining companies in the country.
