I hope I'm not underestimating the Development costs. I know that the R&D for the G8000 is expected to be less than the full clean sheet design. Since it's similar to the G7500. So the cost for re-disign should be minimal. What I don't expect is for the company to veer off it's priority of paying down the LTD. The LTD is it's priority and frankly I don't thing they should change it, for at least the next 3 years where they can bring the LTD down to a more manageable level. of around $3B. They're now achieving some of their goals with alternate jet fuel saving (SAJF). So they're ahead of the curve on cleaner skies re: BJ polution.
