GLTA!MINISTER ALMONTE EXPOSES THE IMPORTANCE OF MINING TO UTECO GEOLOGISTS Print Friendly, PDF & Email The Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, led the start of the events of the "Third Geological Week" of the Technological University of Cibao Oriental (UTECO) with a conference in which he highlighted the importance of mining for the development of the country and communities. Minister Almonte congratulated the rector Marilyn Daz for the 40th anniversary of the institution and the graduates of the geology and mining career, who have entered the labor market and have made great contributions to the country. Almonte made a presentation in which he explained the vision of the Government of President Luis Abinader on the exploration and exploitation of mining but in a responsible manner, causing the least possible impact on the environment. He also referred to the misrepresentation that sometimes due to ignorance or politics is woven around mining without taking into account that minerals are vital in all the tasks of daily life and he referred to construction, the medical area and the transportation. He also took the opportunity to highlight the mining diploma course for journalists organized by the MEM and ordered that with similar characteristics a workshop be organized for communicators from the Snchez Ramrez province to contribute to their training and have greater knowledge to deal with the issues of the sector. Minister Almonte was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Mines, Miguel Daz; the General Director of Mining, Rolando Muoz; the mining advisor to the Executive Power, Miguel Pea, and the director of the National Geological Service, Edwin Garca, who, as a teacher at UTECO, guided him during a tour of the institution's laboratories. He was also accompanied by the civil governor of the province, Cristiana Rodrguez; Julio Espaillat, president of the Dominican Society of Geology and Romn Esteban Marte, president of the University Council.
