Urging Approval. GLTA!Specialists urge approval of mining project studies in San Juan The day October 27, 2022 Vctor Vias, Edward Ramrez and Osiris de Len. Santo Domingo. The geologist Osiris de Len and expert in environmental impact studies, Vctor Vinas, urged the authorities to authorize the studies that determine the feasibility of mining activities in the community of Romero, in San Juan de la Maguana, and attributed the claims of groups opposed to this project to the misinformation that the population has on the subject. The specialists took part in the talk "Mining in the province of San Juan de la Maguana", organized at the Club Paraso by the Encounters Cultural de San Juan entity, aimed at the diaspora of this region that resides in the Capital. Community leader Edward Ramrez, general coordinator of Cultural Encounters of San Juan and other directors also participated in the activity. Osiris de Len specified that the facet of approval and supervision of these studies corresponds to the Government, which must provide sufficient information on the economic contributions of mining, provided that the corresponding studies are carried out and in compliance with the law. The geologist stated that mining and agriculture do not have to come into conflict, since both economic activities can subsist and develop jointly in any part of the country. The geologist said that in these demarcations the interaction between mining, rivers, forests and the community can be observed, which can coexist very closely. On his side, Vctor Vinas indicated that the Dominican Republic has experience of the harmonization that can exist in these two areas, which can be verified with the metallic mining extraction in the municipalities of Bonao, Monseor Nouel, and Cotu, Snchez Ramrez. I believe that San Juan can live close to mining, agriculture and communities and all together contribute resources for the development of Dominican society," he said. However, he recalled that for this it is necessary to carry out environmental impact studies, as ordered by Law 64-00, which deals with the environment. The purpose of this meeting was for the invited panelists to present the different points of view on the development of the mining activity in this province, its technical implications, the aspects of social development to encourage a dialogue between the participants.
