RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:What energy mix can limit emissions and keep the lights on?All I can add is to pose this question, it is based on the premise that climate change is real and a potentially catastrophic problem. If the 24 trillion dollars spent on covid and the war on terror had been spent in a coordinated way developing alternative energy sytems and perfecting energy storage , co2 capture and scrubbing, nuclear etc, just how different would the world's energy picture look today ? It is hypothetical of course, but my point is the money was there for covid and always is found for war. And if climate change is a crisis that requires a war like response the fact that there hasn't been one hasn't been for lack of money, it was flowing in abundance for covid and a 9/11 response, it has been for lack of a collective will to do anything. That is why I understand now what the Globe writer ( a business correspondent) meant by there hasn't been a climate Pearl Harbour moment yet. The world's attention has not been shocked enough yet to mount the all out response that a rapidly warming planet warrants. I am optimistic because I know that the changes could be made, the technology exists and would grow. But as a realist I see that most are not willing to even try to make the neccessary changes and commitment. The US got going in a hurry after December 7, 1941 and again after September 11, 2001 and the world collectively rose up together in the face of covid so we know it can be done. Climate change may become our biggest challenge yet though and our biggest opportunity for change too. Thanks Pandora for being civil in your disagreement and to the others that have posted.
