Santo Domingo - Nov. 21, 2022  12:01 a.m. m.   An entanglement more political than environmental

bureaucracy.

The Romero project, a gold deposit to which the Canadian miner GoldQuest has dedicated more than 40 million dollars and a lot of years in its exploration, is in the strangest limbo of the state bureaucracy. It is not that the authorities hesitate to give or not the exploitation permit. It is that the permission to carry out the obligatory environmental study bounces from office to office.

In Hondo Valle, the small community closest to the deposit, the peasants are surprised that the permit has not arrived, "to have knowledge, you know, if the mine can be exploited or not."

Picking up the conversations here in the capital and there in the hills of the Cordillera and in San Juan, the tortuous entanglement can be reconstructed:

1. The former minister Isa Conde supported the initiative and achieved a very favorable negotiation for the State: the company would pay an additional 8% of taxes that would be used for projects for the community.

2. The process stalled in the Palace. The signature of President Medina, necessary for the Environment to continue with the environmental impact study, was never obtained. (Too many interested in “a toll”, they say.)

3. Now it is the new opposition that opposes doing the environmental study and the PRM does not define it.

The Academy of Sciences believes it necessary and offers to help. The Ministry of Energy and Mines sees many benefits in the project, since it is neither open-pit, nor will it use water from the San Juan River, nor will it carry out chemical processes, because what is exported is the material extracted and crushed but not processed. In the Palace they anticipate that a meeting is feasible this week.

Senator Flix Bautista (Fuerza del Pueblo), who has not been seen in Hondo Valle, is the most staunch opponent, not just of the mine, but... of carrying out an environmental study!

My note - All highlights are mine . We have not sold ONE share of GQC in a very long time . We are long at 10 cents 15 cents and 20 cents ( some 9 centers as well ) .
We believe this permit is copming or we would not be here . And when it does .... Nice !
