Navajojoe, if you were referring to the Centennial project (of 19,333 housing units) in the northwest of the Antelope Valley, bear in mind that this major project is scheduled last of the 3 housing projects by the Tejon Ranch Company (TRC).

When started, development for Centennial will take about 20 years. Centennial has received a go  (and recently settled with conservation groups) but it still needs to go through the planning / permitting / mapping phases.

Scheduled next for TRC is the Mountain Village project which is a luxury-styled resort for 3,450 housing units as well as 160,000 square feet of commercial space. Housing prices there will be well over 1 million USD.

This project (Mountain Village) follows the (already in operation) TRCC project (Tejon Ranch Commerce Center) of 11 million squire feet.

Navajojoe, where did you notice the massive development that in your opinion looks to be a lot more affordable and closer to the employment centers?
