EIA

EIA
  • In November 2022, dry natural gas production increased year over year for the month for the 20th consecutive month. The preliminary level for dry natural gas production in November 2022 was 3,023 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 100.8 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). This level was 3.1% (3.1 Bcf/d) higher than November 2021 (97.7 Bcf/d) and the highest level for any month since 1973, when we began tracking dry natural gas production. Gross withdrawals also increased from November 2021:
  • Gross withdrawals: 3,677 Bcf for the month, or a daily rate of 122.6 Bcf/d
  • A 3.7% increase compared with November 2021 (118.2 Bcf/d)
  • Highest daily rate of gross withdrawals for any month since 1980, the earliest year in this data set
  • Estimated natural gas consumption in November 2022 was 2,777 Bcf, or 92.6 Bcf/d. This level was 3.1% higher than November 2021 (89.8 Bcf/d) and the highest for the month since 2019.
  • The year-over-year average daily rate of consumption of dry natural gas in November 2022 increased in three of the four consuming sectors. Deliveries of natural gas by consuming sector in November 2022 were as follows:
  • Residential deliveries: 518 Bcf for the month, or a daily rate of 17.3 Bcf/d
  • A 7.5% increase compared with November 2021 (16.1 Bcf/d)
  • Highest residential deliveries for the month since 2019
  • Commercial deliveries: 357 Bcf for the month, or a daily rate of 11.9 Bcf/d
  • A 5.6% increase compared with November 2021 (11.3 Bcf/d)
  • Highest commercial deliveries for the month since 2019
  • Industrial deliveries: 723 Bcf for the month, or a daily rate of 24.1 Bcf/d
  • A 0.4% decrease compared with November 2021 (24.2 Bcf/d)
  • Electric power deliveries: 905 Bcf for the month, or a daily rate of 30.2 Bcf/d
  • A 2.6% increase compared with November 2021 (29.4 Bcf/d)
  • Highest electric power deliveries for the month since we began using the current methodology for electric power deliveries in 2001
  • Net natural gas imports (imports minus exports) were -309 Bcf, or -10.3 Bcf/d, in November 2022, making the United States a net natural gas exporter. The United States exported 2.3 times more natural gas than it imported in November 2022. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports in November 2022 were 1.0% lower than the daily rate of LNG exported in November 2021. November 2022 was the first time the month has shown a year-over-year decrease in LNG exports since 2014. In November 2022, the United States exported 10.1 Bcf/d of LNG to 25 countries. Natural gas imports increased year over year in November 2022, while natural gas exports decreased:
  • Total imports: 245 Bcf for the month, or a daily rate of 8.2 Bcf/d
