RE:NewsInterpretation:
- Enough of the Refinery has been re-commissioned that Electra was able to effectively use its proprietary hydrometallurgical process at its north of Toronto refinery for black mass processing
- Electra has decided to extend its black mass processing and recovering activities beyond the Company’s initial target of 75 tonnes through June 2023, because the refinery is not ready(delayed) to process intended Cobalt feed.
- Current established North American battery recyclers primarily treat black mass by a pyrometallurgical smelting process that has a higher carbon footprint and lower metal recoveries than hydrometallurgical processes.
- Electra have, in their demonstration batch process successfully extracting nickel, cobalt, manganese, copper, lithium, and graphite.
- Engineering studies will be completed to assess capital costs for permanent recycling facility adjacent to Electra’s cobalt refinery, leveraging existing infrastructure, buildings, equipment, permits and personnel.
- All of Electra’s black mass processing recovered material, will be sold to third-party companies, which will reduce the “opportunity costs lost” through delay(for various supply chain effectiveness issues/reasons) in “building and commissioning the re-furbished Cobalt processing refinery”.
I hope that some of this personal interpretation is accurate and useful,
