Finally, marching for the right purpose!https://enfoquedelsur.net/locales/44106/video-motoconchistas-de-san-juan-marchan-a-favor-de-permisos-para-estudios-de-mina-romero.html

San Juan.  Thousands of people who are dedicated to the motoconcho trade marched this Saturday through different streets of the municipality of San Juan de la Maguana, to ask President Luis Abinader to grant permits to carry out environmental impact studies of the Los Romero mining project.

During the activity, they asked that they be carried out by a prestigious company and that they be accompanied by the Academy of Science, the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, the social and professional organizations of the province and the participation of the Neighborhood Councils.

They indicated that carrying out the studies does not imply any risk for the community of San Juan, on the contrary, they would confirm whether a mining extraction would affect the environment and water.

“We are a group of industrious men and women who live through the arduous attacks of a decadent economy that increasingly languishes due to the deterioration of agriculture and other means of livelihood in our beloved province and for these reasons, we are interested in knowing if the The Romero project can be developed without harming the environment or if, on the contrary, its development puts the surrounding natural resources at risk,” said Cristian Sols, a representative of the motoconchistas, when reading a manifesto.

They said that they have great hopes for development and employment opportunities encrypted in this project and for this reason it is urgent to define its environmental viability or not, to know the truth and only studies can answer that.

They clarified that if the studies confirm that a mining extraction would affect the water and the environment of San Juan, then they will not agree to continue with the development of the project.

The march began in the Snchez park in San Juan de la Maguana and ended at the triumphal arch in San Juan de la Maguana.
