RE:Is oil the new asbestos?

RE:Is oil the new asbestos? My only objection to your argument is our civilization is much more dependent on
autos than the uses of asbestos.  Asbestos for insulation and as fire retardent was
widely used but once its health effects were fully understood,  was more easily
replaced than our ice vehicles will be.  My feeling is it will take many years before
this transition to occur and I also suspect there will be some serious obstacles in
adopting this transition on a world wide basis.

The materials used to power EV's will cause a strain on resources and capital that
EV advocats haven't yet anticpated.  Mining lithium,  copper and rare earths to make
batteries is not just like turning on a switch and there are also enviromental consequences to this mining activity that are not being acknowledged by the EV lobby.  I am not
against trying to reduce GHG's but I don't think EV's are going to be the panacea for
GHG's and global warming that we might want to believe.  I suspect it is going to be
quite a shock when these facts become widely known and understood.
