RE:RE:Gulfstream Aircraft DeliveriesGulfstream has top many models and some are overlapping.
They build the G500/G600 secretly while selling the older jets they were to be replacing. At that time it was smart idea as you continue selling older model instead of customers waiting to buy new one.
But now you see those jets loosing their resale value (see earlier post on used jet price) because GD saturated the market with their own products.
They made G700 to compete with Global 7000 but Global 7000 became Global 7500 and Gulfstream got out done. Gulfstream made shorter version of G700 to become G800 to out fly Global G7500 but Bombardier again beat them with Global 8000 without compromising the size of the plane.
Now Gulfstream is stuck developing G700, G800, and smaller G400 with heavy R&D cost. And supply chain is lagging. Its lagging for all OEM but if you are waiting on development parts to test and to certify your airplane then it has more impact.
Gulfstream backlog for quarter sharnk, their used jets are loosing value faster then competition and alot of customers are probably not lining up to place order as they might think Gulfstream will secretly introduce new plane making their earlier purchase value to drop.
This is my take and its only 1st quarter. Few more quarter will show better trend.
But to see backlog shrink and used jet price drop is not a good indicator for Gulfstream. Only Gulfstream is seeing this. All other OEM used jet price have gone up.
Hopefully Bombardier backlog is up too.
