RE:RE:OOPS fatfinger mistake DFN UNIT NAV @ $15.06 before dist.I'm not certain, but I have never heard of any limits to the number of shares a broker can lend out, so long as the shares are held in a margin account. A broker cannot lend any shares held in a cash account.
A 10% limit doesn't make much sense given that we've probably all heard of stocks with short positions well in excess that. This is why meme stocks were so successful back in 2021 - the short positions in some of those names got to ridiculously high levels.
There is also a phenomenon known as synthetic shorting, but that can get confusing and is likely irrelevant for most traders.
