Over the past number of decades, I have travelled to Europe many times for vacations and to visit relatives.  During this time there has been a constant theme in my discussions with Europeans.  They cannot understand how a country like Canada with its bountiful resources and highly educated and skilled workforce is not richer and a dominant power in the world.

In terms of getting a wake up call, I must admit that I am somewhat pessimistic that this is going to happen.  The current crop of leadership in this country is pathetic in my opinion. While the bar may not be that high, they are a shadow of the leaders we have had in the past.  With social media and the dissecting of anyone thinking about running for public office and the media going back to something someone may have done when they were a teenager and then saying they are now a bad person not fit for office it is no wonder that great people say "No Thanks!".

The current leadership, here, and around the world for that matter are more concerned with "virtue signalling" than actually getting anything worthwhile done to make things better in a common sense way.

What's worse is that I see a new world order coming and in that vein, I have been encouraging my children to enroll my Grandchildren in Mandarin classes to become fluent in Chinese.

Yes very frustrating

I remember when I moved back home to my current job in the oil patch.  There was all this talk about these big LNG plants on the West coast.  Right on that's good for everybody.  Look at Australia as an example.  There making billions off them
At about the same time the US starting looking into them to

10 years later the US was exporting 2 Billion cubic feet of NG to Asia.......(I'm sure that's number is way higher know)

As for Canada......the 10 projects that were on the books got canceled.   Only one project is being built.....

Just sad
