Pharand IIHistorical Background
In 1985, Magenta Development Corporation carried out an exploration program, that covered a portion of RT Minerals Pharand II property (42A04NE8601/42A04NE8601). The work program consisted of line cutting, geological mapping, prospecting and soil sampling. For the most part, the Magneta property coincides with four RT Minerals' claim numbers 794744, 794745, 794747 and 794748, which is basically the northwestern region of the Pharand II property..
In their report, Magenta said, "no references to previous mineral exploration work could be found in the assessment files of the M.N.R. office in Timmins. Tagliamonte {1985) reports several undocumented gold showings discovered by former timber operators in the claim area.
A chained east-west metric baseline has been cut along the northern boundary of claims 779562, 779563 and 779413. A flagged grid was established, but the nature of the work carried out and the results remain unknown".
If Magenta was the first company to perform any work on this property, who then established the flagged grid? An individual from the logging company??
The field work on the Magenta property was directed by OreQuest Consultants geologists, Jacques Dumouchel and lan Campbell between September 14, and September 27, 1985. If this is the same Ian Campbell of Harfang Exploration Inc, then he may have some information (memories) regarding his time in the bush on the Pharand II property. It's worth a try in contacting him.
For the most part, the majority of Magenta's property is underlain with intermediate to mafic volcanic rocks. I could see at least 6 small outcrops of felsic volcanics. Towards the northeast corner of RT Mineral's claim number 794744, there is a large outcrop of gabbro, while there are 6 smaller outcrops of gabbro scattered throughout the remainder of the 4 above mentioned claim numbers. Also noted are several carbonate veins located just off the western boundary of RT Mineral's property.
Pyrite is scattered throughout the Magenta's property, with most pyritic showings correlating with the carbonate veins. Some chalcopyrite was noted within the large gabbro intrusive.
Several north-south diabase dykes were mapped. Referring to the geology map at the back of Magents's report, could the diabase dykes that are located along the north shore of the lake be gabbro? Sometimes diabase dykes can also be confused for a fine grained komatiitic basalt!!
With respect to the soil sampling program (gold) by Magenta, the most obvious anomalous gold trend is a roughly north-south trend, that tends to coincide within the central region of claim 794747. The rock types, for the most part, are intermediate to mafic volcanics. However, there is also some porphyritic rhyolite in the area as well. Could this north-south pattern represent a north-south structure, which would be striking at an oblique angle to the regional lithology. If so, then a few east-west lines of further soil sampling (MMI?), perpendicular to this anomalous gold pattern, may be warranted, in order that it may establish a more accurate location of this 'interpreted structure'.
The report also recommended a VLF & Magnetic survey in order to assist in revealing any shear zones.
