ESG Southern Germany - by Nico Pop ERIN VENTURES: SO FAR, BORON HAS HARDLY BEEN INVESTABLE AS A GREENTECH ELEMENT
Erin Ventures doesn't have to deal with cheap competition and supply chain problems . The company operates a boron project in Serbia . Boron is a substance that is used in many things. In addition to more mundane things such as glass, there are also smartphone displays, photovoltaic panels, insulating material for houses and wind turbines. Many batteries for electric cars also contain more boron than lithium. “Boron has unique properties and [is] difficult to replace. Boron is the element that is one of the most important and ubiquitous, and at the same time least present in the minds of consumers or investors," said Erin Ventures CEO Tim Daniels in an interview .
An oligopoly currently prevails on the boron market. In addition to a state-owned company in Turkey and Rio Tinto in California, several smaller providers are making a fortune with the element. “Eti Maden's profit has grown from $17 million to nearly $500 million in just a decade. This development began before climate neutrality was a big issue," says Daniels, referring to the Turkish state-owned company Eti Maden. The company published a study on economic feasibility just a few weeks ago. The study, which management says is conservative, impresses with positive key data, such as a net profit margin of 69% .. Immediately after the news was announced, the Erin Ventures share price jumped from CAD 0.06 to CAD 0.10 . The stock has since returned to its original level. Given the tight market around the sought-after boron and the positive key data, investors can take a closer look at the small cap with the single-digit market capitalization.
