In this capsule, we’re delving into a technology called membrane bioreactors (MBRs). MBRs are used in wastewater treatment systems to reduce the footprint, improve effluent quality, and facilitate sludge thickening. They are also ideal for handling high or variable organic loading to a plant, such as in industrial wastewater treatment applications. These systems can be delivered as a site build, packaged plant, or containerized plant. In a site assembly, biological and membrane system equipment are supplied unassembled to be installed into concrete basins.

H2O Innovation launched the flexMBR in 2015. It was the first open-source membrane bioreactor design with the ability to operate MBR modules from different suppliers. This pioneering technology provides flexibility to switch from one membrane to another without having to redesign the entire plant.

The flexMBR™ platform enables owners to:
1) change membranes to increase the surface area;
2) switch from flat sheet to hollow fiber membranes;
3) apply it to new designs or retrofit applications; and
4) counter technical obsolescence.

Qu’est-ce qu’un bioracteur membrane? Les bioracteurs membrane sont utiliss dans les systmes de traitement des eaux uses puisqu’ils prennent moins d’espace, amliorent la qualit de l’effluent et facilitent l’paississement des boues. Ils conviennent galement parfaitement pour traiter des quantits leves ou variables de matires organiques dans une station, comme c’est le cas dans les applications de traitement des eaux uses industrielles. Les MBR peuvent tre livrs en tant qu’installation sur site, que systme emball ou que dispositif conteneuris. Dans le cas d’un assemblage sur site, les quipements biologiques et membranaires ne sont pas assembls et peuvent tre installs dans des bassins en bton.

Lorsqu’H2O Innovation a lanc le flexMBR en 2015, il s’agissait du premier MBR code source ouvert capable de faire fonctionner des modules MBR provenant de diffrents fournisseurs. Cette technologie novatrice offre la flexibilit ncessaire pour passer d’une membrane une autre sans devoir repenser l’ensemble de l’installation.

Le flexMBR™ permet de :
1) changer de membrane pour augmenter la surface;
2) passer de membranes feuilles plates des membranes fibres creuses;
3) d’appliquer cette technologie de nouveaux systmes ou des installations rnoves; et
4) de lutter contre l’obsolescence technique.
