Question:
Please explain what deferred share units are and grant of rights What does this mean? Director Deferred Share Unit (DSU) 56 - Grant of rights +263,366 vol
Answer: DSUs represent a form of future compensation whereby the employer promises to issue shares in the company or cash equivalents – typically upon retirement, termination, or death. The value of DSUs will fluctuate in accordance with the underlying company stock, but are almost always paid in cash, not shares, to avoid share dilution. They are of course similar to stock options, but in most cases no money is invested by the holder, they just get proceeds. The grant of rights references the 'rights' to the DSUs given to the employee.
